Spring Break at Qualicum Bay Print E-mail

Hello, I'm Gabrielle and Ben is my Brother. I'm 11 years old and Ben is 12. We went to Qualicum Bay on a recent trip during spring break with our family. That's how we got all our information. It was so much fun we didn't want to leave!

Where we stayed

We stayed in the cottage. It's nice and cozy and warm. It has 3 beds, some sofas, 1 washroom, and a kitchen... so we made all of our meals, we didn't have to go to restaurants all the time. And, it's perfect for a family of four. The cottage is also a good, quiet place to get immersed in a book. If there happens to be rain, there is a wide selection of books and movies. If you go into the bed and breakfast, there is a telescope where you can see a lot of things. We saw seals, birds, boats, lighthouses, islands, and other similar things.

Things to do ...

On the beach

There are lots of things to do just on the beach! We walked on the beach when the tide was low, we searched for starfish, and other creatures too. You can even go for a walk on the beach at nighttime with a flashlight. But be careful! It might be a good idea to bring an extra flashlight in case the first one burns out. Ben and I also made up a few games. Here are a few:

Chicken- if there is a rock that sticks up out of the water and the tide is coming in, you stand on that rock for as long as you can without getting wet. The person who stands on the rock longest wins!

Drop 'n' run- first, each player finds a unique rock. The object of the game is to run into the tide without getting wet, drop your rock at the farthest point you ran, then run back to avoid getting wet. When you have the chance, run back to retrieve your rock.

We also had a lot of fun passing a Frisbee or ball to each other. We had lots of room to throw too!

Day Trips
Our family had a lot of fun going to Ucluelet on a day trip. We went to Jamie's Whale Watching, we had a wonderful walk on a beach called long beach, and we walked through the town. Of course there are plenty of other things to do, but the time went so fast we couldn't do everything.

Things to see ...

Englishman Falls

There  is an admirable overlook to the falls from one of the many bridges. Ben and I amused ourselves with boats that we made from leaves and small sticks. When we were finished building the boats, we would go onto one of the bridges and drop them into the rushing water. We would see how well they did, and which one lasted longest.

Little Qualicum Falls

On the delightful walk along the trails, in the falls, you can see there is a tremendous amount of power as the water drops. We saw many birds, the trees were huge and the water was crystal clear!

Coombs

In the small village of Coombs, there are many tourist attractions. One of them that Ben and I found interesting is a building called "Goats on the Roof". There is a restaurant, a store, and of course goats on the roof! In Coombs there are many gift shops and fun stores. In one of them, Ben bought a bookmark made out of driftwood. There was also a funny, old car with two gorillas in it!

Long Beach

Long Beach is a beach where you can stand there and look out into the wild , free ocean. Although there aren't many seashells and neat rocks on this beach, the sand is amazingly smooth. The beach is so beautiful when the tide is out. When the tide is out, near the edge of the water, there is a big hill with trees on it and birds. But I'm not sure you can go on it. Long beach is a place where you can also go camping. Even though I haven't been camping there, it sounds like a lot of fun.

Ben and I played the game Drop 'n' Run there too. Except you can run a lot farther out there.
